Service Description

This course will specifically focus on interventions that can be applied in trauma-focused work with children, adolescents, and families. We will review how trauma effects development including brain development and how this presents both emotionally and behaviorally. We will further discuss how it effects the family system as well as external systems in which the child exists. We will discuss and engage in interventions that can be applied in direct clinical work in a trauma-informed way. We will continue to discuss how to specifically set up your therapy space and interventions to always be trauma sensitive. Learning Objectives: Participants will: 1.) Discuss trauma including complex trauma, toxic stress, and abuse. 2.) Describe how trauma influence child development including brain development. 3.) Identify how trauma influences emotional and behavioral functioning. 4.) Apply a trauma informed play therapy approach to assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning. 5.) Utilize play therapy approaches and interventions in a trauma informed way. Demonstrate play therapy interventions to utilize when working with traumatized clients. This is an in-person training.
